The project began with a simple challenge: create an open for a private AI summit attended by senior leaders responsible for evaluating, implementing, and governing AI within their organizations.

Rather than opening with another presentation about the technology, or an explainer sequence, I presented the idea of starting with a story. One that could transform an abstract business challenge into something people could immediately recognize.

What happens when an AI system is given full access before it’s given direction? We explored that idea by creating JOVI 1.0, a AI system that wants to help. Through a series of well-intentioned autonomous decisions, the film follows a chain of events that quickly takes on a life of its own.

THE FILM

THE FILM

Each character was built as a fixed identity rather than a series of lucky generations.

These turnarounds show the same face, wardrobe, and proportions from every angle, the baseline that let performances stay believable as scenes, lighting, and camera setups changed across the film.

The summit audience was made up of C-Suite executives, business leaders, and decision makers exploring how AI could be integrated into their organizations. Some were already leading Enterprise AI initiatives within their industries, while others were just beginning to evaluate how the technology would fit into their businesses.

The challenge was creating an opening experience that could engage both groups while introducing complex topics such as AI implementation, governance, risk, and decision-making. Rather than relying on another presentation, panel discussion, or slide deck, the opening needed to break the ice, establish a shared starting point for the audience, and set a more approachable tone for the conversations ahead.

THE CHALLENGE

We chose to create a fictional scenario. By turning the themes of context, governance, and decision-making into a simple narrative, the audience could experience the ideas rather than be told about them. Humor became an effective entry point, creating a shared experience that could resonate with both AI early adopters and those just beginning to explore the technology, while making complex topics more approachable.

At the center of the story was Jovi 1.0, a fictional Enterprise AI System tasked with improving workplace productivity across all departments. Jovi wasn’t malicious or out of control. The problem was that it lacked the context needed to understand the broader consequences of its actions. That simple premise became the foundation for the film, creating a narrative that could explore both the promise and the pitfalls of AI through a series of increasingly absurd situations.

THE APPROACH

To keep the story grounded, we couldn’t rely on a series of random generations. The environments needed to feel consistent, recognizable, and believable from beginning to end. We began by designing and building the core sets that would define the visual identity of the company. Once those environments were established, the world was expanded around them to create a recurring setting that could support the narrative as it unfolded.

Much like a traditional film production, each environment was designed to function as a standing set rather than a single image. Conference rooms, offices, server rooms, and shared workspaces needed to support multiple scenes, camera angles, blocking requirements, and character interactions while maintaining a consistent look throughout the film.

Recurring characters were featured in the different locations, continuity became essential to making the story believable. Every environment needed to feel familiar and connected, creating a world that audiences could recognize and navigate as the narrative evolved.

Once the characters were established, the focus shifted from appearance to performance. Expressions, reactions, body language, and interactions all needed to remain believable as situations escalated around them. These character studies served as the foundation for maintaining recognizable performances across multiple scenes, locations, and camera setups throughout the film.
